Raising Children's Literacy

Congratulations to Kimberly Elementary School’s Fourth and Fifth Grade classes whose growth on the Georgia Milestones’ in the past two and three years, respectively, have nearly doubled the growth of overall Georgia students, APS students, APS Title I students, and students involved in the APS Literacy & Justice program.
The Buis Book Foundation has been partners with Kimberly Elementary for the past three years and has donated thousands of books to Kimberly’s students to read and enjoy over the winter holidays and summer break. The students’ growth on the Milestones is clear evidence that giving students books that they want to read improves their reading literacy.

The Buis Book Foundation is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Britt Elementary School in Gwinnett County to give free books to Britt’s Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. The first giveaway at Britt was on Friday, May 16th, and the Foundation will return in December to bring more books for a giveaway. Reading well is the key to academic success, and The Buis Book Foundation is excited to expand to another school.

In May, 2025 the Foundation held our sixth book giveaway at Kimberly Elementary School and gave every student seven books to read over the summer.

The Foundation has raised thousands of dollars and donated thousands of books to raise the reading level of elementary students. Our mission is to increase literacy at the elementary level.
